1. Garda Vetting 

   • In order to complete vetting, candidates will have their identification verified by our club's Child Protection Officer and will then complete an online form which is submitted to the Garda National Vetting Bureau through Basketball Ireland.

   • Note that vetting is sport-specific - if you have already been vetted through a different organisation (e.g. a school or another sport); you still need to complete vetting again through Basketball Ireland.

2. Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 course (or higher)

   • Safeguarding 1 is a 3-hour online course, and is the basic Safeguarding requirement for new coaches.  Safeguarding certifications must be kept current, with refresher courses being required after a current Safeguarding cert expires.

   • Safeguarding courses are not sport-specific - if you have already completed a course, you can present your current certificate to Basketball Ireland for licensing.

   • There is a list of upcoming Safeguarding courses on Basketball Ireland's "Helpside" portal for coaches.

   • Alternatively, you can access information about Safeguarding and upcoming courses from Clare Sports Partnership here , or from Limerick Sports Partnership here.

3. Basketball Ireland Intro Coaching course (or higher)

   • Basketball Ireland's Intro Coaching course is run by qualified Basketball Ireland Tutors.

   • Courses are usually held in Clare and in Limerick in the run-up to a new season (August/September).  Our club Secretary can help with booking you onto a course - contact shannonjetsbasketballclub@gmail.com.  

Once the above 3x requirements have been met, a candidate must register as a coach with Basketball Ireland through the Sport80 online registration system (similar to player registration).  More info here.
