Shannon Jets Basketball Club acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Its' officers and coaches are committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice and Sport Ireland and Basketball Ireland requirements.
The policy recognises that the welfare and interests of children are paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that regardless of age, ability or disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, socio- economic background, all children:
Have a positive and enjoyable experience of sport at Shannon Jets Basketball Club in a safe and child centred environment.
Are protected from abuse whilst participating in Basketball and sporting activities or outside of the activity.
Shannon Jets Basketball Club acknowledges that some children, including disabled children and young people or those from ethnic minority communities, can be particularly vulnerable to abuse and we accept the responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure their welfare.
As part of our safeguarding policy, the officers and coaches of Shannon Jets Basketball Club will:
Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding and is provided with appropriate learning opportunities to recognise, identify and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns relating to children and young people.
Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents/concerns of abuse and support provided to the individual/s who raise or disclose the concern.
Ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored.
Prevent the employment/deployment of unsuitable individuals.
Ensure robust safeguarding arrangements and procedures are in operation.
The policy and procedures will be widely promoted and are mandatory for everyone involved in Shannon Jets Basketball Club. Failure to comply with the policy and procedures will be addressed without delay and may ultimately result in dismissal/exclusion from the organisation.

This policy ensures a safe, respectful, and distraction‑free environment for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators. It aligns with the Clare Area Basketball Board and Basketball Ireland’s safeguarding and media guidelines.

2. Core Rule
Videography is not permitted during any Shannon Jets training session or game.
Still photography is allowed, provided it complies with the conditions below.

3. Photography Guidelines
• Parents/guardians may take still photographs of their own child or team.
• Photos must be taken from the spectator area only.
• No flash photography or obstructive equipment (e.g. tripods, stabilisers).
• Images must not be posted online if they include children without media consent.
• No close‑up photos of individual children unless it is your own child.

4. Videography Restrictions
• No video recording of games, training, warm‑ups, team talks, or timeouts.
• This applies to all devices, including phones, cameras, tablets, and streaming apps.
• No tactical filming or recording of referees, officials, or other teams.
• The club does not permit live streaming or automated camera systems (e.g. Veo, Hudl) at any level.

5. Club & Media Use
• The club may appoint an official photographer for team photos or promotional use.
• All images will be captured in line with parental consent and safeguarding rules.
• External media must seek written permission from the Club Chairperson or Child Protection Officer.

6. Enforcement
• Coaches and volunteers are empowered to enforce this policy.
• Anyone filming will be asked to stop and may be asked to delete footage.
• Persistent breaches may result in removal from the venue or escalation to Basketball Ireland.
